Hearts of Palm
Heart of Palm or Palmito is a tropical vegetable harvested from the inner core of a palm tree. Ecuador is the biggest exporter in the world. Hearts of palm are slender, ivory-colored and delicately flavored. Their texture is firm and smooth and the flavor is reminiscent of an artichoke.
It is very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Protein, Riboflavin and Potassium, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Copper and Manganese. Perfect for making salads and as side dish or appetizer. Add them to pasta, quiches and other dishes.
